I feel this to be a stupid question but:
Can anyone confirm that a windscreen from a 51plate laguna hatch will fit a 52plate laguna estate ?
And has anyone changed their own windscreen to offer some advice ?

I would be pretty sure those 2 cars use the same windscreen.
I am in the process of putting a 'new' windscreen in a Pug 106, first time I've done this, after much research, mainly on YouTube... Luckily our local scrappy doesn't seem to mind if you break a screen on removal (only 1 other car in there with a screen removed, several broken through lifting cars with a forklift) as I finally managed to get one out whole, 3rd time lucky.. Used a tool similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-AK...t=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item4abbec2cde, although I've been told wire (for which you need an assistant) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Windscree...t=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item1c2c089fda is more reliable. Also got adhesive stuff off ebay, £8/tube.
I'm quite apprehensive about doing this, although seeing the screen I removed makes me feel better, it had a huge amount of glue along the bottom and only a strip 3-4mm wide along the top.. surely I as a novice can do better than that?
Incidentally the scrappy charged me £15 for the screen - perhaps he was watching me, and the normal price is a fiver..:d

I'm pretty sure it'll fit but i just wanted to make absolutely sure ...
As i'm going to scrap mine i might cut the roof, pillars ect ect & get the screen on the floor/bench to make it more managable to get it free & intact, with the other car it doesnt matter if i smash that screen and clean everything up ...
I watched wheeler Dealers where they had some chap putting in a New Screen & he cut his Bonding *mastic* Nozzel so the *mastic* came out in a triangle shape as the screen needs to be Bonded so that's something to think about but regarding you, you've done the trickiest thing by getting, eventually, a full screen so the rest should be easy peasy :d As long as you dont skimp on the bonding mastic you'll be fine.

Have you done this before? You better practise on the cracked one first, you'll see how easy it is... to break em:eek: You can't really cut the bodywork, pillars etc as you've still got to release the screen along the bottom, which is by far the most difficult. The blade on my thing wasn't really long enough, ditto a Stanley knife, tried using that from inside but would need all the dash out, hacksaw blade not strong/flexible enough, ideal would be a sharp bread knife or of course, wire.
Eventually managed by inserting only the tip of the blade in the Stanley knife, so it was effectively a half-inch longer, counted my fingers when I'd finished:d
The mastic stuff will need to be a continuous bead as I imagine it'll be near impossible to find, let alone seal, a leak; and there's not much time to do it, think the car can be driven after 2 hours!
This is what I've got , http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320904586609?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 think one tube might be enough but thought it better to have 2 to be on the safe side, I've got a couple of boots needing heels glued on if I've any left over:d

Have you done this before?
:d Does it sound like I've done it before :d Of course not but how hard can i be ? surely if taken gently It can be done ...
*@Bagpuss* Of course, however, If things dont go well then you shall never hear of me again.
I''ve not bought the car yet so wont be attempting it for a couple of weeks but many thanks for the input it's gratefully received.

What, even with experience? While I was in the scrappy a chap appeared and offered to help, he told me he does banger racing, and removes screens intact, using wire. He suggested (and he may be right) that there is a business opportunity here, even if your screen is covered by insurance you will still have an excess to pay, and there are s/h screens on ebay for £50+

To coin a cliche 'it's not rocket science', you just have to be gentle and careful, and patient, the adhesive stuff is surprisingly strong and will NOT just pull apart, it has to be cut, even trying to lift the glass to cut the bottom edge from inside the car, when you've freed the top and sides and you're thinking you've won, is risky and you've still gotta be gentle. I think it took me over an hour and probably nearer 2 to do, I wasted time trying to remove the dash but there must be fixings up behind the heater which I couldn't find so gave up with that, took off the bonnet, plastic shield and wiper motor, etc so I could get in with knife.
Think I've told you all I know; if you haven't already done so, go look at YouTube, there's several American guys who make it look very easy...
Oh and I read somewhere to leave a mm or so of old glue on the car and screen, the black 'paint' is some kind of primer which should not be removed (although you can buy it).
Good luck!:d
