I have used RAIN X for years on all my cars, I used to do the trip from London to Exeter and back twice a week, I have driven in the rain all the way and only used the wipers for a total of a few minutes, when the speed dropped below 30-40 mph.
Application once a month is enough.

I found that the harder it rains the better it works, even going through heavy spray when passing HGVs.

As for alloy wheels, I have never used a cleaner, just wash them once a week and give them a good polish whenever you polish the car.

A problem well stated is a problem half solved !

I use Maguires, I used to use MER, then Autoglym, but like other users found that Maguires Gold seems pretty good on dark paint.
I don't have the privilige of alloys on the present 'shed', but find any high kerb will scrape the crud off the plastic trims -
As for the screen, I am still using rainX, but when I move back to the UK in July, I will be seeking Aquapel http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/clio/...ighlight=rainx. Its supposed to last a lot longer than RainX..
Have also heard of some people using black shoe polish for their trims........

Political correctness defined:
Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end

You can also get Rain-X wipes, which are easier to use. I didn't like the stuff though... made my wipers judder (and the still do) almost a year later.

Polish-wise, there is some really expensivce stuff out there (i.e Zaino) but I'm not willing to part with my hard-earned , especially being skeptical of some of the claims made.

I've used Maguires 3 step (beacuse Halfords had a 'buy 3 pay for 2' offer on car care products and can honestly say it was really good. Ok, its hard work as you have to go over the car 3 times (once with each 'step' - paint cleaner, polish, and then carnauba wax), but it trully was worth it. Took me about 6 hours though, but I clay barred the car first as well .

Probably works best on a dark coloured car though.

Also, the 3M stuff (especially the hand finesse) is really good on dark colours, but this is for available to the trade only I believe.

Totally agree!! I use Meguairs NXT shampoo and polish and the results are stunning!
I try and clean the Lag every couple of weeks and polish it 3 or 4 times a year.
