Yeh,my experience,pretty much on other cars also,its "grease"/polish and also the grime that accumulates.
Actual blade wear from abrasive mud,thrown up by lorries etc will affect things.
Also trying to drag the wiper across a frozen screen etc.
Clean the screen and clean the blades to remove polish will help a lot.
If you dont clean the screen also you will get a greasy edge on the wipers from migrating polish,which might make you think the wipers are starting to wear.
Another point is the "rotation pin".Its right in the middle of the point of attachment of the blades to the arms.
My car from new had rust oxide on these .I put a little loctite rust converter on .
Wipers and blades are still ok after 2.5 years,but can judder if not cleaned after polishing
