Re: Scuttle drains

We are helping..honest.

You have a damp car.
If you didn't, it would not mist up.
Normal to mist a little on cold mornings but if bad enough to form ice it's damp.

Doesn't matter how the damp got in, it's the same issue and remedies. Could be cos you often get in with full load of passengers and all in wet coats dripping on floor.
You breathe and cause condensation. That has to go somewhere.
Could be damp in the boot you haven't noticed.
Or past door seals or with a badly sealed roof aerial.
If it's not the obvious places like scuttle drains, you need to start looking elsewhere or think on your driving conditionssettings to see if that is causing it.

Anywhere water can get in it will. Once in, you have condensation and have to dry it out.
In the winter that's difficult as it doesn't evaporate easily, Key is circulation.

Re: Scuttle drains

Hi. Some steaming up can be normal in winter. You drive around in the day with the heater on. Your breath and body add moisture to the air. Even if you are ventilating with full fresh air, the warmer day time air is holding more moisture than the colder night time air can support. Comes the cold night, the car cools down, the air cannot hold the day time pick up of moisture and hence condensation. This normal situation can be aggravated by a water leak which you are convinced you have not got or extreme cooling of the car at night. As you have said that it actually ices up internally I suspect that your car is exposed to very chilling conditions when parked overnight.

Re: Scuttle drains

It has been sunny here today and as I have done on previous occasions, I opened the windows to clear the condensation.tbh is was not so bad today as it has been.

I took everything out of the boot including the carpets. Bone dry. I checked once more all the carperts in
The car. Bone dry.

There is rarely anyone other than me in the car. My journey to work, shops is a matter of minutes so that is not causing the condensation.

There is no evidence at all to suggest where the water on the screen is coming from. Also '_damp' cars smell. Mine has no such smell. Its a real mystery.

I do appreciate your help but feel it is not down to the obvious solutions we have all come up with as over the years I have tried them to no avail.

Re: Scuttle drains

Does the car have air-conditioning - if so it's possible the evaporator drip tray drain is blocked.

Re: Scuttle drains

Yes, it does have air con and I am running the air con a lot to sort the problem. Where might I find this. Is this something we can do rather than involving a garage?
