Push and prod in the areas prone to rust is possibly as good as any way. Even if it is a pre-coated version, no reason to avoid it if it is in good nick and you're going to be cutting and carving anyway.

If you do find a definative answer, please let us know.

My first Renault was a mk1 ph1 Laguna Estate built in Apr 1997 a weeks before I bought it. It lived outside in the west of Scotland enjoying the salt air bath. Eight years later I sold it andit was still solid with no rust.

Whichever flavour of Lag 1 you get, I strongly advise you to check the straps that hold the petrol tank in place. About a month after I'd had mine in for MOT I noticed a dangley under the car one strap had completely rotten away & the other was about to go the same way too Easy to fix mind.
