Megane door hinge adjustment?

Is it possible to adjust door hinges?

I have a 57 plate megane convertible and have adjusted the striker plate as the door dropped but now the bottom rear and top front of the door do not line up with bodywork.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Megane door hinge adjustment?

Have you tried lifting the door up and down holding it at the far edge to see if there's excessive play in the hinge pins?
Convertibles/2-door cars have longer heavier doors and this puts added strain on the hinges and are more prone to dropping.
You may need to insert shims/packing pieces under the hinge to correct the alignment if the pins are ok.

Don't take without giving in return

Re: Megane door hinge adjustment?

Yeh as posted before,
door adjustment is tricky.
My coupe I had adjusted under guarantee as the drivers door was a bit off, not actual hinge wear.
It has to be done in 3 planes and like RW says coupes have long doors.
Striker adjustment is ok ,but if the door is now offline when its shut something may need adjustment at the hinge end.
My meg you can only adjust on the "door " side of the hinge but there isnt much scope for lifting the bottom edge of the door, only alignment, but small adjustments at the hinge end are magnified a lot at the trailing end.

Without pin replacement, if you could get the door to hang correctly when closed and the hinge end bolts are just loose enough to allow minor door movement, that "might" do it , and then retighten.

Re: Megane door hinge adjustment?

If the door has dropped but the hinges are in good nick a good bodybasher can adjust the door using an hydraulic jack and a block of wood - you do need to be careful though. I have seen it done a few times.

Re: Megane door hinge adjustment?

An old friend of mine worked at the Jag in Coventry.

He was on the finishing line and his job was to make the doors fit correctly.

His main tool was a long piece of 4 x 2 piece of timber.

I kid you not
