Spray onto mettal body

I have a small patch of bare metal on bumper.

I know you have to use primer and lacquer, but what if you just sandpaper the rough area and spray a few coats using the spray can. Would it not stay on, peel off etc..?

Re: Spray onto mettal body

The primer prevents corrosion forming underneath the paint and also helps the paint to adhere stronger without flaking off later.

Don't take without giving in return

Re: Spray onto mettal body

It won't bond, and will just lift off in bits, or as one piece.

Regarding primer, since it's metal that has been exposed, it should be acid etch primer, then a regular primer used.
