It looks to me that the two materials making up the bumper are different and I think even rubbing it back wouldnt give a 100% result IMHO..I'm no expert by a long chalk ..we need Vel/ Paul for that.. a pucker repaint aint cheap..second hand one in black might just be the best option..

Re: Best Option for my Bumper?

Judging from the pics it looks like someone has painted it before - it doesn't look like original. Where the paint hsa flaked off looks like it hasn't been prepared properly so repainting it may raise problems. For it to be repainted correctly it would need stripping back. The easiest option would be to source a replacement - just make sure it hasn't had a rough paint job previously.

Re: Best Option for my Bumper?

As heather suggested:

Cos its black and black is the only really good looking carbon fibre vinyl wrap in my experience.
Wrap it yourself. It will be a lot cheaper than getting even a very reasonable sprayer guy.
3D vinyl wrap.. the surface is textured and any holes will be masked.
4d vinyl wrap(just a name, no time travel or similar involved) has a gloss surface but is semi "4d" for an "ooh" effect.
To do it properly, you would need to take the bumper etc off maybe a light sand with 2000 paper and wipe with pure /diluted alcohol to remove any polish.
It does last well .. 3 years + maybe more.

The only real prob with it is any real stone gouges or accident damage, you cant repair it , but .. over 2- 3 years the nicks wouldnt show like in paint.., and you could allways do again

Re: Best Option for my Bumper?

This is interesting, thanks for starting the thread wilks3y..

I have exactly the same problem with a Punto (wait, what forum is this? Oh ok then, it's a Renault Punto) which I bought for 100, the bumper looks to have been poorly painted, the paint has started peeling off, then been touched up with Dulux Everton Blue..
The front bumper is broken as the result of hitting a deer, so I have been planning getting a new front one, then taking off the back one and repainting both. It's been years since I did any spraying though, and I'm not sure what paint to use?

Re: Best Option for my Bumper?

It looks like some form of respray has been done without a primer coat to bind the basecoat & lacquer.

Your cheapest option as a DIY-job is to mask off the lower-section across the entire bumper, give the section a light key to prepare the surface and once clean, spray some textured paint on it.

It will dry dull, but look perfectly acceptable on a bumper, and prove durable. 6ef8

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
