Scenic Tailgate Latch - 200 fix for a 20p part!!

Thanks for the link, the 'Workshopcontrol' post of Mar-2006describes the Scenic tailgate button disaster well and is correct that this is all down to a (poor) 'O' ring that costs just pennies, it holds the whole assembly together!! . At least it would be cheap a cheap fix if Renault could supply the offending part.

No wonder there are a lot of Scenics with black tailgate button assemblies (wrongly). The 'O' ring would be 50p maxm, even with dealer mark up. The latch assy costs 58+ VAT unpainted, then when painted to body colour would be 116+ VAT and fitting 40+VAT (just two torx screws). The cheaper option is the black one at 40.95+VAT......... !!!

No way at that price, and no surprise, despite the common failing of this there is no cheap or easy remedy, no recall either. I won't pay those prices and will find the right size 'O' ring from work or a sundries store. Mad world.!!
Thanks for all your help.

From my experience "O" rings are made to standard specs as set down by BS standards, etc Recently I was able to go to a local oil seal supplier who specialised in hydraulic hoses, etc and he was able to supply me a new ring for my trolley jack at a cost of 35 pence - if you now the size and relevant code it should be relatively easy to source one or even two

See attached link for sizes, etc
