Unhappy Wing Mirror

Hello All

I recently caught my driver's side wing mirror on a wheelie bin and snapped it in two. The top half is OK and the electrics still work, it's just that I can't re-attach it to the indicator half as the some of the plastic in this half has snapped off.

My Renault dealer tells me I'll have to replace both parts (even though there appears to be nothing wrong with the mirror part) at a cost of 83 plus labour.

The indicator part costs 20. I'm thinking of getting one of those and giving it a go myself. Any advice, such as how to get the broken indicator part off would be greatly received.
