Which adhesive for trim

Whilst travelling on the motorway recently the near vertical plastic trim between the front side window and the door front door pillar of my Espace 5 started to come away. In just a few moments it was flapping in the breeze so I stopped and tapped it back into place. Later I noticed the glue which as suppoesd to hold it in place had failed bu ther ewas hardly any there at all. What adhesive is best to re-attach the trim to the door frame? I had though contact glue but was warned by a friend not to use that - Would transparant silicone be more suitable or is there something even more appropriate?

I have use clear silicon on pretty much everything possible that needs sticking including body parts on cars but it will need supporting to hold what ever you are sticking while the silicon is drying..

If you have a hot glue gun try that. It fills up gaps nicely.

Double sided foam pads
Then clear silicon to fill any gaps and fully retain.
