Re: Laguna 2 Fuel Tank Strap
I used SS316 flat bar bought from metals4u 30mmx3mm in a 2m length, bent and drilled as required. I also used a bike inner tube (using spray grease) to cover most of the length for protection of bar and tank. (Total materials £16)
Required length 1.16m cut using dremel (hacksaw wouldn't hack it!)
Also note: the bolts securing the strap actually bolt the tank up and the tank is supported by these, the strap is to account for deformation of the tank bottom due to weight of fuel. The bolts require a 12mm socket and due to corrosion are a pain to get off. Also on mine the handbrake cable on the driver side gets in the way of the bolt on the drivers side.
The job can be done using a pair of ramps and reversing the car on to these and with a good piece of timber 6"x2" length 2 feet the tank can be supported by car jack.
Currently in edradour's garage:
Pretty much everything but a car.
