Split plastic wing

I found a 3inch crack on the front wing of our Scenic today on the top parallel to the edge of the bonnet.

It doesnt look as if its been hit in anyway, as there is no paint damage, so why has it done this and how much is it too fix?

Surely if some onces pressed up against it , or even leant against it it would give and return to shap, that being the point of plastic wings.

This doesnt seem to be on any other threads and my wife is going to go ape when she finds out.

You can press it togther and it all but disappears, so if the other size was accessible there may be some of bonding it from behind.

Do these plastic wings have cracking problems?

Can I claim to the garage as theres no sign of impact damage that it should be dealt with under warranty?

How much would it be to supply and fit a new wing?

Seriously hacked off now.

Please help I've only owned a Renault for two months and it does feel well designed but cheaply executed.

Hi there.

You don't say how old your scenic is (if its under warranty - take it to the garage, and ask them for an explanation why this has occured if they believe it not to be a warranty issue).

Plastic is resiliant, but where the split has occured, may be close to an anchorage point (which will be stiffer than the remainder of the panel). Plastic can be repaired (either by heat or plastic welding), but the wing would need to come off.

I don't know how much a new wing would cost - plus, there would be painting to include.

I'm sure I've read about wings cracking - conduct a thread search, and you should spot some.

Hope you get this resolved.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
