Need advice on repair

As some of you may know I had my car serviced a few weeks back. So at first everything seemed good, went to wash the car and noticed damage on central pillar on passenger side.

Decided to check the whole car and saw that driver side was also damaged. The pillar is dented and paint scraped to bare metal. I called back the garage and notified them. So after 3 weeks of waiting they are saying it wasn't them but are happy to pay for half the cost of the repair.

I then mentioned that the damage wasn't there and car was only dropped of at the garage. He replies saying that he cant see the damage being done by them. So anyway he still offers to pay half the price for the repair and even give me a courtesy car for free without having to pay for insurance. At first I was happy about this, but then I realized, why would they bother paying for half the job and even offer car if they are sure it wasn't them.

Are they just trying to squeeze me of any money they can? I know 100% there was no damage as I always wipe down the car after washing.

Should I be demanding full payment for the repair?

The repair would be around 150+vat.

Get alternative quotes before making a decision.

Your word against garage so little chance of winning a claim.
75 notes may be a good result.

To sound harsh if I was the garage I would laugh and tell to get on your way, if you had spotted it the day after then yeah far enough, but even then it would be impossible to prove it was them, I would take them up on the offer, even more so if they are sorting a car out for a few days

Re: Need advice on repair

How long between you collecting the car and noticing the damage? If you go through the insurance you have excess & NCD to consider. Possible another vehicle could have caused the damage whilst vehicle was parked at the garage rather than being manoeuvred at the garage so it could have happened without their knowledge.
I think they are being reasonable in meeting you half-way although in principle they are responsible for your vehicle the whole time it is in their care but its another thing proving the damage wasn't there before you presented the car to them.

Don't take without giving in return

Re: Need advice on repair

Basically you dont have a leg to stand on ...garage may be offering 50% as a goodwill gesture and hoping to keep you as a customer ...most garages would tell you to f off

It is easier to take it apart than to put it back together
