Megane III driver's door latch mechanism

Can anyone help with instructions on how to replace the driver's door latch mechanism. I have a brand new replacement mechanism and just need some assistance with its replacement. Does the lock barrel have to be removed from the door handle to successfully complete the installation?
Many thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Re: Megane III driver's door latch mechanism

Do you mean the one that goes in the side of the door, held in by three torx/philips screws?

Yes that's it. The spare part has two cables attached for the interior and exterior handles I presume and a socket for connection of the wiring.

Re: Megane III driver's door latch mechanism

Currently the drivers door will not lock on a single press of the fob but will on two presses. The only way to unlock it is by operating the handle from the inside. All other doors lock as they should. This is the reason I need to replace the mechanism and am looking for advice/pointers on how to do it with the minimum of fuss.

Re: Megane III driver's door latch mechanism

Open the door, just above the part you want to change, you will see a rubber grommet.
Pull this out, inside there is a plate, hard to describe if you have not seen one.
But, where the grommet has been pulled out, you will notice it is level with the outside door handle.
You now need a piece of rod, ( a metal coat hanger will work ).
Bend the rod , you will need to bend it at 90%, and have a 1/4 inch hook
( So its a straight rod, at the end bend it 1/4 inchat 90% )
This hook, now has to go into the hole, push it in, until you feel the inside of the door handle.
If you can get some sort of light inside, you will see the plastic, and a piece of aluminium , its the aluminium, you need to pull on.
Its the bottom part of the aluminium you need to hook.
Once you have your hook behind it, give it a good solid pull.
Once this is pulled out. It will allow your d shape part of your outer door handle to come out,....
Then , pull on the other part of the door handle, in the direction, of your door grommet, this will then come out.
If you then look at the part protruding from the outside,.....( Black plastic section)... you will see a piece of plastic ( from where the longer part of the door handle slide out,) this needs slightly pressing in, then all that section will slide back, and all the internal part will come out from the inside.
From the inside, remove ( if fitted) the shield covering the door locking mechanism., undo the 3 pins from your door lock.
Everything else you will see, from the inside
