Re: Please help 2001 Megane boot falling off!
many thanks for the swift replies. Ive been trying to reply but the site wouldn't let me log in through my Iphone.
I'm attaching some pictures. I cannot open the boot again to take pictures of the hinges etc as I will never get it closed again but I've tried to take some pictures to highlight what I am talking about.
Most of the pictures pictures will show the top of the boot (tailgate), where it meets the roof of the car. you can just see in the gap the hinges I am referring to. The hinges are still attached to the main frame of the car, the other hinges are still attached to the boot(tailgate). The bit that is the problem is a cylindrical piece of metal that goes through the hinges, that is the bit that has rusted and sheared off.
The 1st, 2nd,3rd picture show the right side of the car, you can see in one of them the metal hinge pin is flush one side but not the other where it has almost come out. The 4th picture is the left side, which is the side that came off completely. We managed to force this back on and flush but when I opened the boot initially I saw two small round bolts attached to the hinge on the car and sheared off round bits of metal going through the hinge supposedly into these small bolts. The metal cylindrical hinge pin that was sheared off was still running through the hinge attached to the boot but because it has sheared off the boot was sagging severely to one side.
