Rear Quater Panel Replacment !! Anyone done it

Hi all... I have brought a Renault megane 2005 convertible. Which the rear quarter panel is stuffed... on the passenger side.

I went to a scrap yard yesterday and cut on out with leaving about 10cm all the way round from where its spot welded on.
but I have been told today there is no possible way of removing the old one from the car and then welding this one on.

I was going to just clean up all the way around where its spot welded and remove excess meteal and just re weld it back on
but I have been told that soon as I clean it all up the panel will just twist and its not possible to get it looking right.
has anyone actually done this.
the problem is the person before me forgot to put the handbrake on and it rolled and scratched the side of the car. I have replaced the bumper
wing and door its the rear quarter I am not sure about..

Any help would be more than helpful
Thanks

Unless they are worried about the bodyshell distorting with a panel removed, I've not got a clue what your source is on about ????

That an unsupported panel will distort and can be fitted "bent" is part of the job.
Care, attention and controlling amount of heat when welding is all part and parcel of getting it right.

Whether a second hand panel will drop on without some fettling is anyone's guess but can't be much worse then some of the replacement panels I've seen in past.

I assume you are planning on drilling the spots to remove old panel and having the "new" cleaned up and ready to dry fit, adjust and weld?

Were you planning on painting or hoping that the match will happen?

And how bad is the damage, can it be straightened and filled?

..as said could you not pull it to an acceptable level then use a filler ...drilling out spot welds then getting a chisel underneath you should be able to remove the old one

It is easier to take it apart than to put it back together

It may help opinions if you can post up some pics of the damage on the car.

Re: Rear Quater Panel Replacment !! Anyone done it

my plan was.. to just use a anger grinder and cut the old panel off.. leaving the panel where spot weld was and then just grind it down on the car so its not got old panel there and just do the same to the new panel.. and then where the old one comes up to just lign the new one up that I got and then just tack it on..

I have taken a pic of the damage..

I have been told it called be pulled or fillered as the panel flexs and is not rigid enough to the to hold as the first light bump to it.. it would fall off.. and the line cant be kept and 3 body shops I took it to said it needs a new quarter panel..
