Renault Clio 2004 1.5Cdi Tailgate Locked

In the past week my Renault Clio tailgate has become stuck in the locked position. I have reached this forum and although people have had similar problems mine is slightly different.

I have managed to realise the tailgate. When i have removed the actuator I have found that the small motor is fine and there is a 12v charge.

What has happened is the the plastic toothed wheel has broken (presumably because of the wear and tear over time)

When I connect a replacement actuator how do I ensure that the toothed cog inside the replacement actuator is in the correct position as this drives the opening mechanism on the side of the actuator?

I hope this question makes sense?

Thanks

It wont make any difference, it will automatically reset to the correct position.

Re: Renault Clio 2004 1.5Cdi Tailgate Locked

Are you sure about this before I put a new one on?
I have installed one before and the unlocking pin on the side (which moves in and out when the cog rotates) had a small upstand that sheared off the last time.

I had assumed that it did this because I installed the cog in the wrong place and when the cog rotated it tried to go too far and sheared it off.

I have attached a photo to show where the plastic upstand sheared off.

Wont it only slot in one way, press the locking part, of the catch to the closed position, at the same time locking on the inside, then fit it in, then when it is in the open position, it will rotate back..

Re: Renault Clio 2004 1.5Cdi Tailgate Locked

Yes the actuator will only fit in one way.

The only problem that I can see is that the cog (on the attached photo) can fit in several positions on top of the
white actuator. The motor turns clockwise so if the cog doesn't start in the correct location it will either rotate too far (which I think happened when the upstand of the opening arm sheared) or too little. Sorry, as I know its a bit confusing to explain correctly.
