Well, it's a thought, but the only problem I'd see with doing that would be the fact that you'd then have the equivalent of 2 coats in place, which can then add to the problem by taking longer to dry off a bit...
To be honest, unless the waxoyl is making a mess, I'd wait until the weather gets a bit warmer, then try it again (after giving the tin a damn good shake up). What you have applied will be doing some good in the meantime, and it also means that you will have better conditions for the next application to dry off.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
