As said before , the boot release switch on the outside is a common source of problems on the earlier Lag II tourers.
Water gets in and contacts corrode, causing intermittant, non-existant opening or strange faults. Depending on severity of problem you could experience any of these.
As also suggested removing the switch and cleaning contacts with wet/dry and spraying with wd40 or silicone oil etc ( cannot be insulative - as contacts wont make a circuit) usually works. Failing that a new switch - apparently on later models there is a "mod" out which prevents this problem..

Had a problem with my tailgate the pat couple of days...

Intermittant fault (so nice and annoying to try and trace!)

Neither the glass part of the tailgate, or the main part will open when pressing the release switch. Seems to only open when it feels like it!! (must be a female car!)

Is this the same as you all had, and so should I be stripping down the release switch?

Some people say I'm stark raving bonkers, the others just smile and nod...

Had the same problem, stripped and cleaned both switches and has been fine for the last two months, Also took off the drain pipe gave it a clean out and put it back with some silicone so it won't leak over the switches again

Looks like I'm in on this one.

(thought i would revive nad existing thread, save creating a new one)

Anyone know where to get the replacement switches form? I reckon the main tailgate one is salvageable, but glass one is proper FUBAR

Guess i could go to local Ren Garage, but would rather find a cheaper source
