Opps.... I clipped a kerb in my new(ish) Laggy2

Yup.. my nice shiney almost new (2002) laggy2 clipped a kerb at 60 ish (see pics) on tuesday night.

I hit a kerb at a juction by the queensway overpass on the A500 on tuesday night, i went up on the kerb on end of the V, (and by the number of gouges in the kerbs there,(i had a walk down the the end with an attending police officer) it's a popular place to run off the road, at the end of the long straight after the Retail park)
the car bounced up a bit (like on 2 wheels) then ran along the grass a bit and back onto the dual carageway, zig zagging for 200+ yards till i stopped it in the nearside lane. (there were gouges all up the carrageway either from me or others who had done similar.)

The nearside wheels are fubar, along with allmost all of the suspension system down that side, front wheel, entire shock, hub/bearing, lower arm, steering/antiroll linkages, lower arm, driveshaft, rear shock, bearing, axle bushes.

the entire dashboard lit up flashing red and screamed warnings about loss of ABS brakes, tyre pressures etc.. on impact.
i have no idea if belt tensioners went off, if the airbags had gone off, i would have probably rolled the car and ripped the central reservation barriers up.(very big bill to replace them)

the gap between the body and the boot along the top is off line, all other panels/doors are perfectly aligned as before the accident, everything opens and closes ok. just the top of the boot is off.
the car is fitted with renault mud flaps which would have been ripped off if they had clipped the kerb(they are not held on by very much, mickey mouse clips is all)

do you think they will scrap it as ive seen other laggy2's on fleabay with similar damage listed as Cat-C write off's up north.

other than the kerb issue it was running quite well at 120 miles at 5.76 on 10L of LPG.

im really not having a good month...

I'm no expert, but if it's thrown the boot shut line out, it sounds like it's twisted the body. Are you sure that the boot wasn't like that before, but you didn't notice because you weren't looking so closely?

The body shop should be able to check the geometry of the car and tell you whether it needs jigging. If it does, then the insurance will be doing you a favour if they offer to write it off. Jigging seems to be very hit and miss, and the only car I ever had it done on never drove the same again. I've heard the same story a number of times from others too.

From the damage you describe I'd say that they will write it off even if the shell is straight. It's very easy to tot up thousands when your replacing suspension components complete, and as Horatio says,as a result of the accident the car will probably never really drive any sense when repaired unless it is done absolutely meticulously.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

I sorry to here this i think you will be lucky if you get away without the car chassis needing pulled,i mean to say its not like a normal crash where are the cars panels take the impact and are designed to fold and absorb the impact it has been the wheels and the suspension component's thats have took the impact and as we all well know what there attached to to?the chassis leg so i would say the impact has most defiantly went from front to rear,i say this as i did much the same in GSI Astra and it was fubbered, not sure about the pre-tensioners??did the lap belt feel very tight??if so i would say they have engaged if not then you might be lucky,

Hope that helps Donald

Sorry to hear about your misfortune mord, I'm no expert, but I would have thought that it would take less than what you have described to write off a 2002 Lag

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow...

Wanna see what I drive? No pics of the latest Passat, but you can see the Scenic II here and the CB1000R here!
