Hi,
Trying to purchase a roof rack for the RX4, are they same as the meganes/scenics of the same age 00-02 and how do they fit to the car as i only seem to have a full length plastic trim covering the 'rail'.
cheers.

Try this website:

http://www.carracks.co.uk/vehicle.php

I found it very helpful when looking for a roof box.

It has a feature where you type in your vehicle details and it brings up numerous options, including Thule as mentioned above.

I bought from them and recived my roof box, by courier, the next day. Prices at time very reasonable too.

@Emilys Dad, Thanks for that but unfortunatly they don't list the RX4 so it doesn't clear up my confusion :(

I suppose I could just ask Renault but I'd rather chew stinging nettles than speak to my local dealer

It would appear that Thule, and others, list the fittings as going between the roof and the doors, same as the scenic phase one, shame really as I was hoping to have a slightly cleaner look to them as i was hoping to leave them fitted all the time.

Cheers for the help so far :d

These any use to you ?

There are a number of RX4s for sale on ebay which have roof bars/racks fitted. They look like different designs but appear to fit into the slots hiden in the plastic trim on the roof.

The second pair look like the same ones my father in law has fitted to his Scenic, off the shelf renault items.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the pointers guys, problem is no one seems to know for definete if there roof racks will fit mine.
You would of thought all RX4's would be the same as they only built them for a short while really

I have had 2 rx4's now and they have both had the stupid plastic trim that covers the rails on the roof, unfortunatly neither of them have had the recessed slots to open up the fixing points, if they did it would be easy :d
So the only option seems to be to fit the ones that fit between the doors and the roof :(

iirc on the standard Scenic, the mounts are still there, just covered by the trim. I believe that you can upgrade the trim to the one with the covers in. Perhaps you could get the trims from the car that's being broken

Just for my curiosity, what trim levels are your RX4's

mmm, thats a thought :)
My current one is a sport 2.0 16v, i can't remember the trim level of my last one, but it did have climate control, rear e/w and a few other differences to this one, still the 2.0 16v though, probably why its booked in for the dephazer pulley next week :( Monaco sounds familiar but i am only guessing :)

Monaco was the highest spec, I'd be amazed if it wasn't on one of those  climate control suggests that it was at the higher end tho

Perhaps a member that's done the trim conversion to a Scenic will add a comment :)
