Re: Renault Scenic 1/Megane 1 - Rear Axle Brace Corroded

Fitted it yesterday and heres the lessons I learnt.

If all goes well you will need:
19mm long reach socket and something to extend your leverage - I used a 12" length of copper piping.
Pliers (with a relatively long nose)
It can be done with the car on the drive or on ramps to give a little more room.

If things don't go well - in my case the offside bolt started rotating with the nut - you will need to spend some time removing the interior trim from the end of the rear seat area,
The bit you need is above the end of the sill (if that makes sense) where there is a rubber/ plastic patch that hides the top of the bolt - this takes a 16mm spanner or socket.

It is really simple - two nuts hold the bar on, and then you need to remove the plastic holder thing from the bar with the pliers.
Fitting is the reverse but the nuts have to be done really tightly since they are holding the subframe on.

I hope this helps.

Re: Renault Scenic 1/Megane 1 - Rear Axle Brace Corroded

Just had this come up on my MoT. Not even looked under the car yet, to confirm, but the garage gave an advisory (as they confirmed they knew of the instruction not to fail it for an MoT).

OK, so took a look at a 'new' bar on ebay ....

I can't really see much of an issue of making one for yourself out of something that's not going to rot? I'll go rummage in the garage for a piece of galvanised bar. Any issue with that? Doesn't look strong enough to contribute anything to the chassis/suspension.

Wow. Talk about thread resurrection.

Rather than mess about in your garage looking for a piece of bar, it might be just as quick to buy the part from your local stealers and fit it.

But if like me you have several in the area, make a call or two and see who is cheapest, like what I did.
