Red face Damaged Subframe

Hi Guys,

I have a damaged subframe and would just like to get your advice on whether my car is still ok to drive around in.

I have a Renault Clio 1.6 RXE Automatic.

The subframe and the front on the passenger side is not bolted in and looks as if it has been damaged.... Is this a big problem and if so what shall I do?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Damaged Subframe

If bolts are missing or the frame is damaged the car would be in a dangerous unroadworthy condition as it will affect the steering and dear knows what else. In the interests of safety I would recommend the car not be driven until properly repaired.

I take it the car was invoved in an accident or such.

Re: Damaged Subframe

HI thanks for your reply...

I'm not quite sure; I brought it 2 weeks ago and A friend looked at it the other day because when I put the windwash in the car it came out through the bottom, so when he checked it he said that the bolt in the subframe was missing.

so I am assuming that it was in an accident and the person who sold the car to me "forgot to mention it"..

Thanks again

Re: Damaged Subframe

contact your nearest dealership and order new subframe bolts, then see if you can simply refit it.
if it is damaged then you will need a replacement subframe. try here, they can ship it on a pallet. or ebay .

you will need to have a look at both your subframe and steering rack/anti-roll bar as they may be damaged as well(as they are both bolted to the subframe).
have you checked all alignment of the body panels? if anything is noticably out then the chassis might be bent, any damage or marks on the front crossmember, or any marks on underbody of car, sills etc.. or problems with the nearside suspension?

regardless you will then need to get the cars full geometry checked out on a laser diagnostics ramp to ensure it wont pull/crab or rip up front/rear tyres.

as recomended above, in meantime car is NOT! roadworthy so keep it parked up.

Spare parts available for 2001 Scenic 1.9Dci, 97 Lag1, 02 Lag2.
