Re: Undertray Poll

Update: To their credit, the dealer phoned today and apologised profusely, saying they did indeed overlook putting my undertray back on and they know where it is (in the storeroom with a number of others) so they will refit it for me early next week. So I'll just go very carefully, slowly and observantly in the meantime.

Re: Undertray Poll

Its amazing how many undertrays go missing. Mine was missing when I bought the car and I said to myself sure I'll get one handy enough but every car I've ever looked at in a breakers/lyiny up etc is missing their's also.

I never bothered pricing a new one out of fear or what I'll be charged!!

Re: Undertray Poll

I would agree I've lost count of the number of cars I have came across who have mysteriously lost their undertrays. Lets be honest if it broke or shattered you would hear it. So the only conclusion I can come to is that many mechanics just can't be bothered replacing them. I was visiting a small garage last week and there were an Alpha up on the ramp and I watched the mechanic remove its undertray and then proceeded to instruct his young apprentice to take it to the skip out the back.
I am beginning to wonder how many poor motorists have suffered problems as a result of such shoddy practice. Yes they can be a PITA to remove and refit but surely the customer deserves better.

In hu88ertvelsat's case whilst the garage was very apologetic they damned well knew it hadn't been replaced - after all it was in a store-room. Could it have felt lonely and wandered in by itself seeking the company of its own kind?
Had they any intentions of informing the customer of their error??

If it were me I would don my favourite T-shirt - make an appointment to see the manager and point to the statement boldly printed both back and front of my shirt. It says "Don't pi$$ on my back and tell me its raining OK"

Rant over - feel much better now.

Re: Undertray Poll

Yep, I'm really pleased the garage has still got my undertray and wil be fitting it early next week.

They told me that they've got a whole load of undertrays in their storeroom, which usually just remain there "til someone claims them", which I guess means until an owner looks under their car after getting it back from the garage. How many people do that? I mean, I'm someone who does take photos of the odometer and loads of other aspects of the car inside and out before I hand the keys over to a mechanic, but until now, I've never thought about taking a photo to prove the undertray was on!

My weekend journey is unavoidable and to be honest, firstly, what if I had to make a vital emergency trip between now and the garage refitting it, or secondly, there's just as much likelihood that something may happen due to the vulnerability, on my way to the garage, so I guess I should just relax and be glad they're gonna fit it back on, early next week, and take it steady in the meantime? Maybe seeing as it's an error on the part of the garage, and say if something rare did happen to underneath the car, I could kick off and get them to contribute to the repair costs, as it's the garage's fault for not putting the tray back on?

Have a good weekend all!
