Espace boot lid paint problem

I have a problem with a repair that has been made to an Espace boot lid to the top left hand window surround. The paint has gone dull and no longer matches the metallic red of the rest of the boot. I would like to have a try at repairing the boot lid. What is the best way of doing this?

Re: Espace boot lid paint problem

Hi there.

I suspect that the lacquer has failed, and would normally advise a light rub down on the affected area with some 2000 grit wet & dry, followed by the careful application of some clear lacquer...

It may be possible to restore the paintwork before heading down this route first though; Firstly use some cutting compound (I use 3M Fast-cut Plus), followed by T-Cut, then a decent polish, and see how it looks then.

It may well only be the edges where the lacquer remains white, then there's a shortcut to remedy this; thinned-down lacquer applied along those white bits, which will fill in the gaps.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
