renault megane cabrio roof problem

I have a Y reg Megane cabrio with a hood problem. I guess my sons may have contributed to the problem...pushing the button and letting go at the wrong time!

When trying to operate it now I just get 'beeps'.
I can manually open it, by pulling the cover release in the boot and unscrewing the brass cap to release the pressure from the mechanism.

I did not the fluid was low, when the hood was in the open position, and I put in a small ammount of the correct renault fluid.

I read here that by getting to the cover release mechanism you could make the motor work, and get the worm gear to locate, by contacting the micro switches, but no mater which way I try, I get nothing!

I cannot see a specif fuse for the hood, is there one?

I see all kinds of scare stories of high costs, even to get an idea....
yes, its cold and I dont need the hood down.....but any help would be great!

Re: renault megane cabrio roof problem

I dont know if you have sort this problem out. but I fixed my roof problem yesterday. you have to play with those microswitches but it takes some time to discover which operates what. especially the emergency rope takes the mechanism out. there is a small pin that hooks up with the emergency rope with the mechanism.try that one.

Re: renault megane cabrio roof problem

Hi all, I have a 52 reg megane cabrio (bought yesterday!) and aleady have an issue-hope this isnt the sign of things to come, ive been saving for this car and got rid of my trusty old rover for it

Basically, I didnt get a manual or anything with it, and after seeing the ribbon hanging from the back seat, I gave it a yank, thinking it may release the seats or something, but now realise it was the manual roof overide:loser:. When I press the button, I now get nothing, so I open the cover at the back and fiddle around. I can either get it open, but have to fiddle again before it closes, or get it closed but have to fiddle before it opens.

When I push my hand up the small gap where the ribbon is located I can push what feels like a metal lever. But this just seems to "lock" the whole mechanism.

Am I right in thinking I will just need to relocate the cam thing at the end of the ribbon into its cradle for all to be ok? To do this I basically need to get to the mechanism via the seats etc? I have scowered various forums in a panic and it seems this is the solution....

Thanks alot
