Thumbs down Stop Indication

Hi People
I am a new member to this forum so i hope this question has not been done to death before.

I am not at home at this time but my wife tells me that the STOP indication on her Laguna II 1.9 dci Sport tourer (2002) stays on when the car is running. She has looked through the book and all she can find is that you need to pull over when safe to do so and stop the vehicle.
My question is has anyone any idea what could be the problem/s?

Many thanks
