Oh I know that, also, any gel shouldn't be used if the sidewall has been driven on for any extent as the tyre is knackered.
Personally speaking, I would never choose a car where a spare wasn't fitted. But hindsight isn't going to help this member.
The runflat would still operate with a cut on the sidewall, as it has extra bracing enabling it to run with zero air in the tyre.
Short of fabricating a mounting bracket and stowing the wheel in the boot or under it - I'm struggling to think of any other options.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
