I know this was the case (brittle plastics) with the Mk2 Mondeo, especially the bumpers. All you had to do was touch an slightly an object with the bumper and it would shatter / crack - I've seen loads driving around like that.

IMO the MK3 (as I have) was a giant leap forward in terms of build quality. My bumpers arent brittle all and bend quite well when hitting someone (Trust me I've tried it ).

The interior is also much better (on a par with VW of the day) and has no squeaks or rattles, unlike two Renaults Ive had.

So all in all I'd say No - but thats me judging my Mondeo against the two Renaults I've had. I cant comment on both marques latest offerings.
