A proper conversion is a nightmare, because you don't just swap the bulbs. By law, HID lights must be fitted with washers and an automatic levelling system.
But if you're not bothered by these technicalities, something like this might be an ideal solution: http://www.carlight.nl//en/index.php
250 quid + VAT buys you a real HID Xenon conversion kit (as opposed to tinted halogen bulbs that they can get away with calling 'Xenon' because they stuff them full of Xenon gas instead of whatever they'd usually use.)
I'm not sure where you'd stand with respect to plod and MOT time though. Really, you should do a full conversion with self-levelling and washer jets.
