Scenic 2 electronic handbrake noise on an incline

Just bought a 53 reg Scenic 2. I don't think the error was there before I disconnected the battery to fit a new window motor, but now the car has a 'check parking brake' message.

It's been like this for a week without problems until today when I parked on a incline for the first time. Then there is a loud noise which sounds like a straining electric motor on the driver's side rear wheel and the handbrake doesn't seem to hold the car very well.

Dash says 'Stop' and 'Parking Brake Fault' and there is a flashing red button on the handle.

Again, when I go and park on the flat, the brake works fine although it still says 'check parking brake'.

Does it just need resetting/recalibrating? If so, how?

Many thanks,
