The noise is likely to be the internal torque limiter in the brake motor unit...sounds like a hammer drill.

Which is typical if the unit has lost it's settings.

They may catch up in time...they do seem to learn.
Mine was doing same before Christmas after a pad change.

I did find a local garage to reset the service (P) warning and the permanant check handbrake disappeared...but came on everytime the noise happened.
His Renault CLip unit would not talk to my car so it was a generic reset not a full one.
But I drove around for a couple of hours using the handbrake manually at every stop and the thing seemed to learn.
Works perfect now.
