Angry Clio Bonnet models

I'm not sure what is meant by model years, Clio I has a bonnet that opens t'other way (bit like a Triumph Hearld), i.e. bonnet hinge is at the front and catch is nearest windscreen. Models with hinge near windscreen appear to have this fault and I believe it is the main spring loaded catch which becomes stiff to operate so doesn't "click" around the spigot(?) properly and when wind catches it it rips the safety catch and the bonnet opens!!! Renault did say that the catch needed maintenance , but its not listed as a daily, weekly, monthly or any other owner maintenance task, maybe its in the manufacturer's service manual!! not much use to drivers/owners. Renault should have issued a warning at least and a simple method of checking/lubricating said device.
