Hello, Please could you advise on the best value tyres for my Megane Scenic. It is an old 'sport' model 2001 and the tyre size is 205/55/16. I need something with more grip! BUT do not have lots of money! Thanks. Cheers, Jono.

Hi there.

To be honest, you have plenty of choice; http://www.tyretraders.com/tyresear...=1&cat=All&speed=All&Loading=All&tyreType=All - I don't know what the load rating requirement is.

Regarding brand choice? Well, it has to be remembered that tyres are all about compromise, those which have stickier tread compounds, tend to use more fuel, and wear out more quickly - so there is no free lunch as such, it's where your priorities lie.

I tend to buy the cheaper tyres (a nail doesn't care what the name is on the sidewall), and find them perfectly acceptable, in any case, they are much better than the tyre thats coming off.

Best of luck,

Paul

try www.oponeo.co.uk. But you do have to get them fitted.
WOW, they are expensive for my car - cheapest on the site I suggested - £58.37 + (£5 p&p), cheapest on the site you mentioned - £90 (free delivery)....

May be cheaper for the OP's size though.

As will all tyres if the car is out of alignment or the tyres run at the wrong pressure. Dismissing Conti's because this unfortunately happened with you is a bit unfair. I've found Barum Bravuris to be a good compromise between price/performance and wear. £64 fitted/balanced and old tyre disposed of is a decent price....see link.

There are many companies to choose from.

I ordered 4 new tyres from ebay. only in February, and ask the local garage to chuck them on for me, they also fitted 4 new glow plugs I bought from gsf carparts, nice lads, just bought them a few beers from Tesco.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I used to have an MR2 and it really mattered what tyres you had on. Bridgestones were the daddies, but Firestones were just as good at half the price, so liking the look of the Firestones offered here on this website! My car had problems yesterday, so is in the car hospital (garage to anyone else)! But, needing a couple of tyres before the MOT next month - if I can afford it!!!! Thanks again, Jono.

Thankyou to everyone that replied. Very useful. Will now try and get a deal locally, as I think maybe a Firestone (or Bridgestone) will be the ones! I always liked them on my MR2 years ago, and gave excellent grip. It is a minefield, but better the devil and all that!
My car is in the car hospital (garage) and am just awaiting the results back! Hoping it is something small, but it sounded like something big!!!
Thanks again, Jono.

That's great.

They are a good company, and saved me a lot of stress & money when I made an emergency purchase on Christmas Day, at 1am.

Mine were delivered within 3 days, which impressed me greatly.
