Could also be a blocked fuel tank breather pipe or a fuel cap which is creating a vacuum.

What I would suggest is that once you fill the tank, at the end of every journey 'vent' the fuel cap - this will remove any chance of a vacuum building-up, and just use the car as normal (carry a full fuel can in the boot - just in case), all going well, then you shouldn't have any more problems, and this will indicate where you need to problem-solve.
