The old saying in the car trade - if you want advice never ask a car sales rep.

Whilst DPF's have become mandatory it not that they won't give trouble it only a matter of when. As it is the technology is somewhat under-develped and counter productive. The filter catches the soot particles then you have to drive the car hard so it can then eject them out of it's system. If you ever witnessed a Renault diesel engine going through a forced DPF regeneration you would soon see why.

One other piece of advice I would add is that the newer diesel models very rarerly if ever live up to the mpg figures claimed by the manufacturers.
