Re the rings, yeah that's what I thought. I also changed a front sensor cable as a precaution as outer sheath had a nick in it.

I checked the rings cleaned them (although weren't rusty or particularly dirty) and then had an independent check them, they couldn't find anything, then gave to another Renault specialist and they couldn't find anything either, hence asking about the the pump. Again no codes being thrown into laptop when the car was moving or any historical either, so that suggests electrical / ECU side is ok

so this is a bit of a cry for help to say, where do I go now ?

I could replace all the rings, but not gonna pay Renault for complete drive shafts as well so would be aftermarket sources, and need to be sure that specification is right otherwise I might be no farther forward.
