It worth taking your time and do a lot of checks - that way you'll get an idea of overall condition and likley future needs.

If you want to check the condition of the glow-plugs you can measure their resistance in ohms using a multi-meter (an essential tool when working on modern cars).

See attached service list I drew up a few years back - it covers many essential aspects not usually covered in a garage service plus it lets you get to know your car that bit better. Feel free to copy or distribute. Just credit me and this forum as it's source.
