You could invest a bit of time and effort and get it to work very well.

Cut a section where the sump plug would be located and use a couple of cable ties to hold it in place, plus using a few cable ties to augment the fixings that DO line up will be time well spent as it will reduce noise and stress placed on the undertray - you don't want it getting ripped off at speed, causing damage to your car, and a hazard to others.

30 mins is really how long it should take you to having a job you can be rightly proud of.
