I isolated the chip that was heat sensitive - funnel on hairdryer - frosty morning.

It was the Motorola 68k based microcontroller in the electronic dashboard.

Concluded that there was no chance of me doing a chip change.

Bought new display 470. On install it read in km (speedo and odometer), central locking did not work, nor did burglar alarm.

75 and (probably 10mins on Clip later) everything works as it should.

Perhaps should have just booked it into Dealer at first signs of trouble?? The part that I paid 470 for - would have been manufactured for about 15. Good for Renault.
