Re: Noise/humming from wheels megane 111

Hello and wellcome,

Im guessing thats dynamique..
Since its so new,as long as you can demonstrate the noise, they will fix it under guarantee.
They seem ok in that respect to me.
Then again its a money earner for the garage from renault.
Get them to check it as you have, with the wheel off the ground.
If its a definite grinding /rumbling reason for them not to sort it.
The only thing is pads do tend to ride on discs a little, almost touching and if yuou take the wheel out of its normal rotation ,it might have a slightly scratchy noise initially.

But it could be a load of things handbrake cable a bit stiff," wheel bearings..front rear pressure regulator, wheels out of true n so on, but as long as you can reproduce the problem its money for the dealer too! its not like buying a used car out of manufacturer guarantee. The dealer will be as keen to make money from renault as you are to get the prob fixed.

The lip wear .its mainly on the outer face of the disc?.thats where mine is anyway, altho Ive covered 3-4 times your mileage..but I noticed/felt a lip in the first year, both front and back.. it hasnt progressed much since then. Also consider"disc growth" wha...the part that the pads doesnt rub on will grow a tiny bit with oxidisation/rust n dirt.

Oh one thing.. which may or may not apply.. my original wheels and michelin energy tyres are definitely noisier at speed than my really thin ones on alloys.. Dunno why. I expected the reverse to be the case. The original wheels and tyres have about 10k miles on them now.
Self testing.. drive along at low revs with the windows openand preferably on a narrow road with high walls/earth banks to see if you can hear rotation noises.
Wheel bearings as a possible should notice increased noise when cornering aside from a static rotation/wobble test.

Currently in coup's garage:
RM III coupe 1.5dci FVT,Audi TT Mk1 ,a bike and too much rubbish.
