First of all a very BIG thank you to peo1987 for this post!

It gave me the solution to my broken drivers window! My window had been working fine and then it went up one day and would not work again!! So after searching the forum I found the above post!

So yesterday I took my door apart :d! I removed the door trim panel, in order to find the window mechanism. The inside of the door was very damp and the box itself was very wet.
The yellow arrow is the back of the speaker and the red arrow is the actually control box!

So I pulled out the wiring plug at the bottom of the box (yellow arrow) but then had to unbolt the motor from the door in order to undo the screw at the red arrow and the one on the opposite side of the box!

In order to fully remove the box, the wires at the top have to be removed. So pull up the black cover, but be careful of the small square seal surrounding this bit and unclip the wires.

Once I had the box out I uncliped the cover (red arrows). There are 5 in all, 2 on each side and 1 on the edge. They are really hard to unclip... some swearing may be necessary..:p. Please make sure the seal is kept safe! (yellow arrow)

Once I removed the circuit board it was obvious to see where the water had corroded it! (yellow arrows)

But I then sprayed just the corroded area with WD40 and left it upright to drain off the excess. I then put the box back together covering the seals with silcone. And refitted it to the car!!

Window now works fine :d:sunny:. I am so pleased, once again this forum has saved me a lot of money!
If anyone has any questions etc bout this... just ask:d:d

With what you're telling about the state of the inside of the door as you removed the door card, I do suspect moisture may come back again.
If I were you, I'd take some measures to try and prevent that from happening again.

Wiping away the moisture that's already there, is half the job.
You should also make sure the drain holes and their rubber grommets at the bottom of the door body aren't clogged in any way.
Remove whatever debris you might find there. This is where water is supposed to escape.
If any of it seeps in during heavy rainfall, it should certainly not be splashing about in there,
but instead run out onto the door sills, and from there on to the gutter.

Also, make sure that the window seals along the bottom of the window frame are clean and intact, with no cracks anywhere.

Aside from that, all I can say is that you've done an outstanding job with carrying out and documenting the fix.

Hi Heather,

My apologies on dragging up an old thread, I am having the same intermittent problem with my passenger side window.

I'm planning on doing the fixes you described and also the ones in the post you linked.

One thing I would like to know is how to get access to the internals of the door, I have never stripped a door or done anything mechanic like so wondered if there was a guide to getting access to the inside of the door etc.

If not no worries I shall endeavour anyway :)

I'm not sure if there is a guide on here but I'll give you a quick run down of what you'll need to do!
You'll need to remove the handle you pull the door closed with on the inside! Take a thin screwdriver and gently prise off the cover, it is just held on by clips but if your not careful they can break! Then unplug the electric mirrors (if you have them). Then remove the two screws one at the top and one at the bottom!

You'll then have to prise out the door opening handle, window switches and the door arm rest storage pocket (if you have one)! For the handle, there is a small piece of plastic covering a screw, flick this out, unscrew the screw, place a screwdriver under the edge of the handle, where it meets the fabric and lever out the handle. The switches just need to be levered out! These can be disconnected but they can also be pushed through the holes in order to lift the panel up!
The pocket is a pain in the a$$, in my opinion!! There are two retaining clips, one on each side, these have to be pulled out! But the are a real pain to get out as have edges all the way down that don't like to be pulled out! You have to try and move these from side to side in order to wiggle them out! Not very easy and will probably take up most of your time!! Once these are out you should be able to prise out the pocket with a screwdriver round the edges!!

Once you have these off you can unclip the fabric surround of the door! The fabric bit is clipped on in bout 4 places but it is attached to the edge of the door, where it meets the window, so it will swing upward allowing you to look in to the interior of door. You could possible get at the regulator here to spray it.. but its pretty hard to see!

To remove the plastic panel, 1st take off the small plastic triangle at the bottom corner of the window above the door. It should pull off. At the bottom of the door there 2 long bolts to be removed and the door light to be prised out! Inside the door there are the 3 screws. One above and to the right of the speaker, one to the right of that holding on the plastic and the last one is under the black plastic trim piece, this needs to be unclipped and the screw removed! Just watch how that trim bit is fixed cuz you gotta put it back the same way! :d
Hopefully the plastic panel should the lift off, by pushing it up from the bottom then towards you! The motor etc is attached to this! I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions!

PS-I can't remember if you need to unclip the speaker grille in order to get the door panel off. So just watch out in case you do! :)

Hi Heather

apologies on not posting.. its indeed a bad 2 weeks, following the head gasket i got the car back for 4 days and then the turbo went also. Had to shell out £1000 all told to fix both the head and turbo.

With the weather turning as bad as it is im hoping to get the door done sooner rather than later as its getting pretty rainy out there. Will most likely be printing your instructions out soon, will get back to you when i get around to it!

Yeah I reckon thats a good possibility :). If it was the motor or control module for the motor then I doubt the window would be fixed by taking the panel off! I would have a good look at all the wiring into the connectors! Check for a loose one or possibly some corrosion! The window mechs etc are prone to water ingress.

I've heard of that there is different units from mine... ones that cant be opened up like I did with mine! More like the ones shown in the scenic thread! You can get the module out but have to spray the whole unit!

Fingers crossed it all works out.. and if there's anything I can help with just ask. :d:d

I have a 2004 Megane Cabrio and the rear window is not working, is partially open and letting in water. I was told by the garage that it is a known problem with the reg (?) and that Renault will do a free fix but only if the car is less than 7 years old with FSH (mine is just turned 8). Does anyone know what this problem is and what the fix is? When I take down the roof this window stays 95% up but makes a crunching sound as if it's trying to work. Many thanks
