Angry cant get the CD changer to work

Got a 99 Scenic with TunerList Radio Cassette. Now bought a second hand Philips RC026 changer and lead. When plugged up, the changer powers up and ejects the CD cartridge, but no recognition on the head unit so wont play. Tried disconnecting car battery and powered up again with radio code but still same. Also tried a friends changer (same type) and got exactly same results (suggesting changer is not a faulty one?). Am I failing to do something simple, or have I just wasted 60 on the changer and lead?
Does anyone have this problem and solved it, or do they know what make and model cd changer is needed. All this for my wife who wants to listen to James Blunt! (dont say put it on cassette!)

Thumbs down

My first Scenic had a 'tuner list' head unit and I fitted a VDO CHM 604 changer unit, worked great . I have just tried to fit it to my new Scenic with a 'update list' head unit and I have the same problem as you . I'm told its a compatability problem
