Laguna keycard reprogramming

My first post:

Just bought a Laguna 2, 52 reg with one keycard ( a bit naive of me!). Thanks to renaultforums I realised the keycards on ebay were of no use. Unfortunately I had already bought one and a set of reprogramming instructions. A waste of money!!

After reading the posted advice I called three dealers to get a spare card. They quoted 130, 110, and finally 85 in Rochdale (PGC Renault). This was for a new card (from France), pre-cut emergency key and the programming (which they did for free which is why it was so much cheaper). I neede my V5 to order it and they need the car to programme it when it arrived 8 days later.

There are unprogrammed cards for sale on ebay , but they tend to sell for over 60. As renault charge this anyway (just for the unprogrammed card), what's the point in buying from ebay ?

Hope this helps someone!

To put this in simple terms, and I now cause I spoke to Renault Customer Services :

Once a key has been programmed it CANNOT be reprogrammed, this goes for both plip keys and keycards, only a BRAND NEW (virgin as they call it) key/keycard can be programmed to your vehicle, and the most annoying part about those selling these on ebay , is that they are fully aware of this.

So to conclude, NEVER by a second hand key/keycard off ebay , it is of no use to you.

this statement is hot off the press from an E bay seller.

"Strange. My brother is a Renault technician and he re-coded a card for my 03 Laguna from my previous 02 plate one. I do know that Renault themselves don't like doing it as they lose money. They can't make the 80 from the sale of the new card and they have set prices that doesn't include the de-tuning process. Thanks for the advice though! I will speak to some pals who are in Renault technical services to make sure this is still the case as the last thing I want is to sell something that's unusable. Thanks again, John "

Any comments from you Reno Techs who may read this? It is an ongoing saga of denial and counter denial so I would like a second opinion.

keycards , reprogramming
