Hi again
Before i send off for a new card £180 ive taken the card reader out & checking for the plastic prongs which i have seen on other forums, I cant see any plastic prongs?
Theirs 2 metal clips, 1 each side still inplace, nothing seems to be loose. 2 Purple lights on 1 each side.

I guess thats all working or am i not looking in the right place for the plastic prongs?

My megane has been doing the same thing for 2 days! Every time I put the key card in it says card not detected.....I rang my husband panicking! He simply told me to put the card in then put in to first gear...took it in to neutral n then started it! Hey it worked swell......well until I get a new battery this method will have to make do! Lol

Glad its not gone altogether yet, dont leave it too long as i did and eventually stopped working altogether.
It didnt even open my car door & I had no way of driving it untill new key arrived.
I could hav opened door with small pull out key but then i needed the card to work to turn alarm off & start car.
Get a new card key ASAP.
Good Luck!
I have now changed to a Peugeot. X

Check out www.keyrepair.co.uk they repair Renault cards. I had one repaired for a Grand Scenic. £25 I think, fast service, recorded delivery. They did a great job. They carefully open the card, replace the switches as standard and find the fault and repair it, usually a dry/cracked joint. I take it it is still opening the doors? Send an email to them for advice. Hope this helps...

I had the same fault with mine.......I sifted through the forums I even tried 'splitting a key card' to try various suggestions...NOT an easy task...which was unsuccessful. I stumbled across a company in waterlooville nr Portsmouth called CARTRONIX 02392265986 I took the card to them, (you can post it to em)
they were super quick, cheap. £25 which I thought was a bargin ..and basically solved my headache.... They can tell you straight away if its the key card...so happy days thanks cartronix

My Renault Megane CC 1.6 VVT gave the same message I did folow a repair in YOUTUBE and in the process damaged the coil, the cover was also damaged.

It was the coil solder positions that needed soldering so it was repairable in the mean time I bought a new cover but was not able to use it as it had not arrived yet and the coil wire windings were damaged so I could not go that way of repairing myself but I had my car blocking the way of the car in the garage so it became urgent.

I considered buying another card key online ebay and stripping out the coil and then assembling it but again it was time consuming and the chance of me damaging that us well.

Called renault dealer first I had to provide all my paper work which is not a problem but then they needed 10 days to get the codes from France and then the rediculous price of £185 put a end to that.

I looked up online and found a shop specialising in this repair which ranges from about £20 for standard repair but in my scenario unfortunatly they had to provide 2 parts so I ended up paying £60 it would have been cheaper if I did not damage it in the first place.

I also asked about getting a spare they suggest that I get a second hand one on ebay they need to open it and change some components and reprograming it but they need the car there it would cost around the £80 mark.

With the new case it feels like a new key and works well here is their contact details:

I had 'Card Not Detected' appear more and more over the course of a month whenever I attempted to start my car (renault megane 2008) with the keycard. The last attempt took me about 30 goes moving the keycard in slightly different directions. I called renault who quoted me £109 for a new key card BUT I would need to bring it in for a service before hand as it could be the card reader. They would then need to programme the new card ...money money money. I asked if they could just look at the key card first. they said no. So I was probably looking at £200. I then read these forums and looked at the keyrepair.co.uk website. Gary was very helpful but couldnt get my card back to me until the following week as he was unavailable. I then found cartronix.co.uk in hampshire which I drove to. It took them 15 minutes to fix the keycard and cost £25. They said it was a loose coil which happens all the time to these keycards and is a design fault.

I had read some peoples attempts to fix it themselves but knowing what I'm like with DIY I didn't want to risk doing more damage. DO NOT WORRY if this happens to you. You've just fixed it by looking at these forums and doing your research. Well done! Youve saved yourself money so now you can by that new pair of trousers you wanted.

I have just had this problem today, don't do the knife slide trick it will work for a little while, best off getting replacement I paid £120 for a mobile fitter to come and replace and program it took 15 minutes guaranteed min for 1year but will come back if anything goes wrong, but it's working fine and I have peace of mind
