I purchased my Laguna ('96) a few months back and have only now noticed that the second key fob does not operate the central locking etc. I recall the chap that sold it to me saying he had changed the battery and am assuming that he never recoded it to the car.
Anyone know how I do this? Is it one of the fun one's whereby you have to turn the key left right etc...?
Problem I have is the central locking and the alarm isnt working, the immobiliser seems to be working ok.
I dont think I have the IR remote/alarm blip (no IR light in the front of the remote), its got a red light to the top right of the button you press when you want to unlock the car. I also dont have the IR bulb in the ceiling near the sunroof, I have 2 sensors in the front window.
Here is where it starts to get a little wierd.....
I bought this car for my wife on the 4th of August, it came with 2 keys/blips and upon getting home I noticed that one of the blips didnt work so put it on the work surface to sort in the near future. On a few occasions I had a slight problem starting the car, took maybe 2/3 attempts but started ok.
On Wednesday I get a call from my wife saying she couldnt start the car, told her to stop turning the engine over and to lock and then unlock the car with the remote and then try starting it. After 3 go's she told me that the central locking had stopped working. Its now 4 days on and the central locking and the alarm isnt working.
Funny thing is that the key/blip that didnt work will now turn the immobiliser off and start the car but wont unlock/lock the central locking or arm the alarm??? The key that I was using when I bought the car wont work....it wont turn off the immobiliser???
If you know a way to programme the key/blip thats not working and get the central locking and alarm working again I would be most gratefull.
hello mike,do u now how to put the code in with the stalk i have a mk1 face lift clio rsi 1996 i wired up a stereo and since then the plip aint responding can u help

Just to round off this thread - all the info I have posted is second hand so I can't answer specific queries, I only passed it on for other people's benefit.
hi i just did my 97 laguna
this is how to retune your blip key to your car.
lock all doors/windows, using the switch on the center consul,
hold down the switch on consul (the one next to the handbrake) for more than 5 seconds :note the doors should lock then unlock.
when this happens 15 seconds is allowed and the immobiliser warning light illuminates
point 1st key at the reciever and press button twice, the doors should lock and unlock
thats all there is to it, also the same for the safrane

Hi, i'm new here but would just like to say thanks for your information. Got my car yesterday and only one fob worked but after trying out your suggestions both fobs now work. Many thanks, Kate
The battery went on one of my keys and it would not work when I replaced it. I used the instructions for the Clio II and it worked a treat! Thanks so much!
The 'Clicker' in my key became loose so I could not activate the central locking from my key. I opened It up and found that if i placed the 'clicker' back in its rightful flace and clicked it the key would work. I beleieve the soldering that held it was weak and no longer held it.
So today I used super glue to stick the clicker back in ts rightful place so i can use my key to lock the car. After doing this my key loked the car.
HOWEVER when just trying to start my car the engne wont turn over and the flashing red light between the speedometer and the rev counter began to flash rapidly.
ALso I have only one key, when i bought this the dealer only had one key for it.
What is wrong with my car, does it need re programming or is it something else.
HI read all through the posts on this problem my problem is that i am buying a 1998 espace 2.0 rtx the guy who is selling it lost is keys and of corse could not start it he has since bought another key he can open the doors manually with the key or with the remote fob but cannot start it due to having no code in it i know that i have to obtain a 4 digit code but is the way of programing it the same as any of the ways you have already metioned only theres no mention of the espace in any posts any help will be greatfull
I have the same problem as a number of people on this thread, I've purchased a 2nd hand Scenic (54 plate) and my second keycard doesn't seem to work, even with a replaced battery. Do any of the suggested resynchronising methods apply to the scenic (new style) (I am not sure whether i could make things worse by trying the wrong method).
Hi NOcmak - if you have keycard ignition you can't reprogramme it but it may be faulty - have a look at the link below and see if he can help - he was able to repair my second keycard for around £20. You could try emailing him
cheers madnoel10 for the quick response, emailling KeyCard repair, they say they can't do Scenic keys, only Laguna and Espace . Looks like renault dealer will be my only solution.
hi i got a clio 1.6 rxe S reg. i got two key plips but they do not work. i dont know wat the problem is. i tried holding down on the central lockin button ete but this does not work. can any1 help?
hi can you let me know how to program a second megane key. i have a 96 coup p reg with a black ket with small red light and dark led?
the first key is working
Hi matthew - why not try the the sequences as suggested - many of the renaults share the same technology - no guarantees though - what have you got to loose:steam:
Thanks for the information on the immobiliser. One quick question does that mean that all keys have the same shape? and it is the cars ecu that stops the car starting?

most likely the water has caused corosion inside if you are REALLY BRAVE you could try and split the card open and see, but if not its a new card
Thks for your reply. I forgot to mention that the card does start the car, no problem, however it wont lock the doors! Could it be cos I left the battery out for longer than 2 minutes, that it needs re-programming??
