sometimes dealer "experts" cant pinpoint the problem so they would rather rip out and start again. costing every1 but themselves a fortune. a good auto electrition should be able to pinpoint the problem, or at least fit a new loom for a fraction of the price!

Renault clio ecu

I have had exactly the same problem, my garage changed the throttle and have tried to repair the ECU unit as apparently its a design fault on the clio 02 plate where the barcket rubs through to the wires in the ECU and causes mayhem. Although they have tried to repair it it looks like I am going to have to have a new one at a cost of 800!!! As this is a common problem is there not something we can do through trading standards???? Any advice???

The wiring fault is quite a common problem, there was a recall on the D4F clios a couple of years ago to fit a piece of shielding over the wiring where the cover contacts it, might be worth finiding out if this was done, and if not why not, might be worth a call to RCS , as for the throttle fault, the most common problem is sticking of the throttle motor caused by deposits on the body, best fix is to clean the motor and replace the small seal between the rocker cover and inlet manifold to stop oil vapour blowing past into the manifold making things worse, then reset the throttle limits and try it from there, works for me in 9 cases out of ten, some garages get mixed up between the throttle potentiometer and the pedal potentiometer and hence carry out a pointless repair, hope this helps.
