A possibly cheaper route for you to consider would be to contact a few local auto electricians - I'm sure they will have the expertise, and charge a lower rate to boot. I agree that it's ridiculous to have to go to such lengths to carry out rudimentary maintenance - you have to ask the question for whose benefit is it to make tasks more difficult? Another thought has occured to me - your car will still be under the manufacturer's warranty (which covers all items against manufacturing defects), I would argue that a bulb to not even last 12 months (most of which have been over spring/summer/autumn - therefore your lights haven't been used very often), is indicative of a manufacturing defect and should be replaced free of charge. If they argue against it - you can always say that if that length of time is 'normal' then why hasn't your other light failed?

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

Good advice velsatisfied.
I would argue the warranty issue as well. I would expect a bulb to last a minimum of 12mths.
