laguna OBD

Im thinking of buying a lead to run to my laptop which will enable me to read my cars on board diagnostics.I have the Lag 1.9dci on a 52 model.The connector is behind the ashtray.Which connection type do i buy??Is it eobd,or obd2??I dont want to buy the lead and find out its the wrong one.Any help is greatly appreciated

As I understand it, EOBD is basically just OBD with manufacturer's specific extensions. For an EOBD unit to be of any use, it'd have to be one that's specifically deisgned to work with Renaults. Even then, it might not perform all of the functions that the official Clip diagnostics system does.

There are three possible protocols on the OBD connector, and not all units (especially the cheaper ones) support them all. For Renaults, you'll need a unit that supports the CAN protocol.
